When planning a holiday, it is vital to also plan for the care of the family pets. Especially at peak season, most reputable boarding kennels, house-sitters or home pet-care services will be fully booked, so it is best to give yourself plenty of time to make suitable arrangements.
Pet inoculations must be up-to-date before trustworthy boarding kennels will admit pets. Owners should visit the facilities and check that they are clean, spacious, well-maintained, and that your pets will be well cared for while you are away.
If you choose to use house-sitters or a pet-care service, check that they know how to feed and exercise your pet, who they should contact in an emergency, and contact details of your vet. It is advisable that they meet and get to know your pets beforehand, while in your presence, to see if there will be any problems.
And no matter who is caring for your pet, it is essential to ask for references from other satisfied customers.
P.S. Our picture was supplied by one of our petWise members - Liane & Clinton Roux - they sent in a picture of their gorgeous baby "Jezelle". Thanks Liane and Clinton.
