CODE - STATISTICS FOR THE INDUSTRY - SUBMISSION

1. MANDATORY SUBMISSION

1.1 All Ordinary Members of the PFI will CONFIDENTIALLY supply their monthly sales turnover and sales volumes to the nominated collection body as appointed by the PFI directors.

1.2 All Special Affiliated Members, who are so designated as they are retailers with private label brands competing in the market, will CONFIDENTIALLY supply their monthly sales turnover and sales volumes to the nominated collection body as appointed by the PFI directors.

2. PFI STATISTICS FORMAT AND SUBMISSION SCHEDULE

2.1 These PFI statistics will be supplied in the format as agreed from time to time at a PFI general meeting.

2.2 The PFI statistics will be supplied timeously on a monthly basis so that the previous month’s statistics will reach the nominated collection body by no later than the 25th day of the current month.

3. REPRESENTATIVITY OF STATISTICS

3.1 The sales volume (tonnes/kilograms) and sales turnover (Rands) will represent all sales of pet food products in South Africa.

3.2 Sales Turnover will be NETT sales value less VAT.

3.3 The categories of pet food into which sales volumes and sales turnover must be divided are:

3.3.1 Dry dog food
3.3.2 Dry cat food
3.3.3 Wet/canned dog food
3.3.4 Wet/canned cat food
3.3.5 Snacks & treats

3.4 Each category must be reported for sales volume and sales turnover under three main market segments:

3.4.1 CATEGORY A: GROCERY – the category is equivalent to all FMCG incorporation of products as sold through supermarkets, hypers, convenience stores, wholesalers, forecourts and cafes.
3.4.2 CATEGORY B: NON-GROCERY – Other outlets not included in FMCG such as co-ops, tenders, roadside selling, nurseries, hardware stores, green grocers.
3.4.3 CATEGORY C: PROFESSIONAL/SPECIALIST – this channel includes all sales through veterinary clinics, pet shops, breeders (direct to or through breeder’s operations).

4. CONFIDENTIALITY (GUARANTEE)

All statistics are submitted to an independent third party who collates the members’ inputs. All directors, the Executive Director and all members only ever see the collated result. Individual members will naturally have their own inputs to compare to the members collated statistics.

5. REMINDER

These statistics are as good as the accuracy with which the individual members collect and submit them, and the care they take in submitting data on time. They remain the best and most accurate statistics that the industry has, and each member is charged with treating the figures with respect and maintaining confidentiality. These figures should never be supplied to people outside your own company. All company members with access to these figures should be informed of the need for confidentiality.

6. DISTRIBUTION

Collated totals for all categories will only be distributed to ordinary members of good standing who have submitted their data in full.
